Customer Reviews:
5 out of 5 stars drill is very old and still works great   March 26, 2010
Bruce L. Nguyen (Kennewick, WA)
This drill was handed down to me from my father. I would roughly estimate its about 20 years old I could be off by 5 or more years. It's a very old model. I have been using it frequently recently to make a workbench and compared to the hitachi d10vh that has good reviews here it's a huge improvement. I would have thought a newer drill would have been better but I was wrong. this makita drill has more torque at lower speeds and I was surprised to see that its only 3.3 amps. it has a lot of power, more than I could imagine using but I have not tried drilling through concrete yet so I could be wrong. the cheapo hitachi drill is fine for drilling holes but screwing in 2.5 or 3" deck screws into 2x4's is where I notice the difference. the hitachi seems to slip more easily than this drill. the chuck on this makita is much better designed. drill bits on the hitachi are off balance and on this drill its centered as you would expect. this is a workhorse tool. I think this is such a good drill I'm going to find brushes and see if I can buy another one on ebay because I don't see anyone here selling it. if you can find this at a garage sale buy it, I highly recommend it.
