5 out of 5 stars Great little drill   July 1, 2010

5 out of 5 stars Excellent high quality tool, all the grunt, much less weight   June 30, 2010

I purchased this drill after buying the Makita BTD142HW Li-Ion impact driver kit which included the charger and two batteries. This drill is much lighter and more compact than my Craftsman 19.2V bruisers (those things just won't die). The decision to upgrade to a smaller drill was made after driving over 300 2.5" screws at eye level while installing balusters. This is a fantastic tool: compact, sturdy, well balanced, comfortable (the grip tapers toward the battery, compare this to a Bosch). The factory reconditioned tool was brand new, not a scratch or blemish. The clutch, chuck and speed control switch all worked perfectly.

The compact Li-Ion battery is light and has plenty of juice, recharging only takes 15 minutes so you'll never be able to "lap" your battery charger (a common occurance with the old Craftsman on hot summer days). Besides, the full size LXT battery is compatible with this drill and charger if you really need to upgrade to 3.0 amp hours from 1.5. The chuck can only be tightened by grasping it and running the drill. Done gently enough, you can hear the chuck click into place holding your bit.

The drill was delivered ahead of schedule with no issues whatsoever, and you can't beat the price. I highly recommend this tool.

5 out of 5 stars Great Drill   May 24, 2010

I have that drill now for over a year, I am a contractor and we almost never use corded drills, we use them almost every day, and yes they do fail after a few years of heavy abuse, I used to use the Panasonic drill, also a superb drill, but with the heavy use we have, I prefer the Makita, it is less expensive.

Good drill for everyday projects, plenty of torque for the size and weight. Fast battery charged 15min.
